Philosophy

In the oppinion of the Author, the Unix "shell" is one of the most elegant, practical, powerful command and scripting languages ever written. It has stood up to 30 years of use and abuse, and while it has been copied, cloned, rewriten, duplicated, "improved" and otherwise mimiced in many variants of unix and other operating systems, the core design, functionality, and syntax has not improved significantly, nor needed to be improved. Those who grew up using "modern" Windowing systems or primative CLI's may not fully appreciate the elegance and funtionality of the unix shell (originially the Bourne shell, /bin/sh) and its variations.
