xread variable
Reads up to EOF from stdin and parses the stream as an XML document and assigns it to the specified variable.Example: Read into variable a an XML document from a file
$ xread a < file.xml
Example: Read into variable a an XML document from a Here Document.
$ xread a <<EOF <test> data </test> EOF
